Q1Medicare.com Drug Search Tools Updated with Latest Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Data

Saint Augustine, FL (PRWEB) August 12, 2012

Q1Medicare.com has now updated their Medicare Part D prescription drug tools with the latest Medicare drug data available from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The most recently released Medicare drug data includes the addition of several new brand-name drugs and the introduction of four generic equivalents of popular brand-name medications, including, Fluvastatin Sodium, generic equivalent for Lescol®; Irbesartan, generic equivalent for Avapro®; Irbesartan-HCTZ, generic equivalent for Avalide®; and Quetiapine Fumarate, generic equivalent for Seroquel®. A complete summary of these Medicare drug data changes can be found in the Q1Medicare.com/Blog with links to coverage charts illustrating how different Medicare prescription drug plans cover these newly introduced medications.

The August CMS drug data is also now included in the Q1Medicare Drug Finder allowing people to see how newly released medications are covered by different Medicare Part D plans or Medicare Advantage plans in their service area. For instance, the generic medication Quetiapine Fumarate is now available on over 200 Medicare prescription drug plan formularies, but the cost of coverage can vary widely between Medicare plans with co-payments ranging from $ 0 to over $ 90 depending on the chosen plan. In fact, some plans treat this newly introduced generic just like the brand-name equivalent and organize the generic on the same cost-sharing tier as a “Non-preferred Brand Drug”. As an example, the Florida Medicare Part D plans that cover the new generic Quetiapine Fumarate can be found at: Q1Rx.com/Finder/FL/47335090288.

The Q1Medicare Formulary Browser has also been updated to reflect the latest CMS drug data release. As a reminder, Medicare Part D plans can adjust their drug list or formulary each month with the addition of new medications, removal of medications, changes to drug cost-sharing tiers, and changes to specific drug usage management requirements. For example, since the beginning of 2012 over 275 formularies now include the generic medication Atorvastatin while the number of formularies covering the brand-name drug Lipitor® has decreased from 225 to 151 formularies. To review a specific Medicare plan’s prescription coverage, Q1Medicare site users can access any stand-alone Medicare Part D prescription drug plan or Medicare Advantage plan formulary by using the Formulary Browser found at Q1Medicare.com/FormularyBrowser.

Lastly, the newly enhanced Q1Medicare Long-Term Care (LTC) Drug Tool also includes the latest Medicare drug data updates. The LTC Drug Tool now cross-references over 160 of the most popular brand-name and generic medications used by LTC facilities with the available Medicare Part D prescription drug plans qualifying for the low-income subsidy $ 0 premium and institutional Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plans (SNPs). An important August addition to the LTC drug list is Irbesartan, the generic equivalent for Avapro®. The LTC Drug Tool itself has been enhanced as an interactive form where the Medicare plan search can be narrowed or filtered by selecting the medications used by a particular LTC resident. The long-term care drug plan overviews can be found directly at Q1Medicare.com/LTC or a state abbreviation can be added to this URL to go directly to that service area. For example, the LTC drug tool for Florida can be found at: Q1Medicare.com/LTC/FL.

“Many 2012 Medicare part D plan Members have been affected by the monthly drug data changes and with our Formulary Browser, people can quickly see the details of their particular plan’s prescription drugs coverage,” notes Dr. Susan Johnson, Technical Director and co-founder of Q1Group LLC. “On the other hand, our Drug Finder and LTC drug tools were designed so that, with one click, our user community can get an overview of how all Medicare plans in their service area cover a specific medication.”

The Q1Medicare Formulary Browser, Drug Finder, and Long-Term Care Drug tools are available at no cost and designed for computer, smartphone and tablet platforms. The results of the Formulary Browser and Drug Finder are also formatted to be printed for offline use.
